A Man of No Reputation

This is the inaugural post on this blog. I want this to be a dialog for the members of my two BBL groups and our friends. Our concerns here will be business leadership from a Christian world view. The title of this blog comes from a passage in the New Testament.

Phil 2:7

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant,

Jesus himself became a man of no reputation as he became a man. As leaders we are called to do the same thing. We become men and women of no reputation, people not concerned with our reputation but only with the reputation of our heavenly father.

This means that we stop playing for the audience of our friends, our peers, our parents or anyone else. The audience for our life is our heavenly father. We draw our significance out of his gift to us. We find our identity in being a child of God. We are personally of no reputation and as a result we are free. We are free to do as our heavenly Father asks without worrying about what everyone else thinks. When business goes well, it's for Him. When it goes poorly, it's for Him too.

Becoming a man of no reputation is a process that lasts a lifetime. We move into this kind of freedom step by step.

Up for it?
